A Training — About Us
Practical Training. Real Experience. Genuine Competence.
A Training is a Brisbane-based training provider focused on one simple principle:
Training should create people who are confident and competent in the real world — not simply people who have passed an assessment.
We provide practical, high-quality training across First Aid and CPR, Mine Safety, Fire Safety, Induction Training, Low Voltage Rescue and other workplace-safety areas, working with individuals, employers and organisations across Brisbane and surrounding regions.
At the heart of A Training is David Tucker, Managing Director and Trainer Assessor, who has been delivering vocational training since 2012.
David brings together more than 14 years of training experience, practical industry knowledge, formal qualifications, ongoing professional development and a teaching style built around making complex information practical, understandable and relevant.
At A Training, the objective is not simply to help someone complete a course.
We want them to be ready to use what they have learned when it actually matters.
Training That Goes Beyond the Certificate
A certificate is important, but we believe it should represent something more important:
genuine competence.
Our aim is for students to leave training able to:
- understand what they have learned
- demonstrate the required skills
- retain the information
- recognise hazards and make safer decisions
- respond appropriately when faced with a real situation
- feel confident applying their knowledge outside the classroom
For courses such as First Aid, CPR, Low Voltage Rescue, Fire Safety and Mine Safety, that approach is particularly important.
A person may one day need to rely on what they learned during an emergency, electrical incident, workplace hazard or safety-critical situation.
That is why we take the quality of training seriously.
A Training doesn’t just train people to pass. We train people to be ready.

Throughout his training career, David has delivered training across areas including:
- First Aid and CPR
- Low Voltage Rescue
- Mine Safety and Standard 11
- S123/G189 Mine Supervisor
- Risk management
- Fire Safety
- Construction and Mining Induction

Across more than 14 years of training, David has trained thousands of students across safety-critical disciplines.
His experience is supported by employment records, training records, qualifications, professional-development records and other documentary evidence retained by A Training.
Real Industry Experience Behind the Training
David’s knowledge is not based solely on qualifications or classroom delivery.
Before and during his training career, he gained practical experience working in the Queensland coal-mining industry as a mobile plant operator, including more than three years of operational mining experience.
His mine-site experience included work at Queensland coal operations such as:
David worked directly for organisations including Macmahons and EDI Downer, as well as through labour-hire arrangements at BMA/BHP and Rio Tinto operations.
His operational experience included driving large Caterpillar, Komatsu and Terex haul trucks and working within the safety systems required on major Queensland mine sites.
That included practical involvement with:
- pre-start inspections
- Take 5, JSA and JHA processes
- hazard identification and reporting
- radio communications
- traffic-management requirements
- emergency procedures
- fatigue management
- toolbox and pre-start meetings
- SOPs and OCE reports
- safe dumping and haulage procedures
- consultation with supervisors
- workplace safety systems
This practical background helps David connect training requirements with the realities of working in high-risk environments.
First Aid & CPR Experience
First Aid and CPR are among A Training’s core areas of expertise.
David currently maintains competencies including:

Across his training career, David has delivered First Aid and CPR training to thousands of students.
His experience also extends beyond the classroom, with first-aid knowledge applied in real situations including asthma incidents, cuts and wounds, and everyday injuries requiring appropriate first-aid care.
Mine Safety & Risk Management
David’s mine-safety expertise combines operational mining experience with formal competencies and many years of training delivery.
His qualifications and competencies include areas associated with:
- RIISS00034 Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set
- Standard 11
- S123/G189 Mine Supervisor
- G2 Risk Management
- Local Risk Control
- Workplace Communication
- Emergency Response

David continues to maintain mine-industry currency through regulator updates, Recognised Standards, legislation, industry consultation, safety alerts, professional development and direct engagement with people currently working in Queensland mining.
Fire Safety & Emergency Response
David maintains the competencies contained within the Fire Safety Advisor Course Set, covering areas such as:
- facility emergency prevention
- emergency procedures
- emergency equipment and resources
- emergency response
- Emergency Control Organisation participation
- ECO leadership and management
- controlling small facility emergencies
He has approximately 14 years of Fire-Safety Training experience across his broader training career.
Low Voltage Rescue Training
David has delivered CPR and Low Voltage Rescue training for more than 14 years, with approximately 5,000 students trained across his broader career.
Relevant competencies include:
- HLTAID009 — Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- UETDRMP018 — Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel
- UETDREL006 — Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker
A Training places strong emphasis on practical demonstration.
Students are shown how to inspect and position rescue equipment and complete the rescue sequence before being required to demonstrate the skill themselves.
A rescue manikin known as “Fred” is used to provide a realistic simulated rescue scenario.
This training approach was strengthened after student feedback showed that students understood the rescue process more easily when it was demonstrated step by step before assessment.
Training That Adapts to the Learner
Students learn in different ways.
David is regularly praised for being knowledgeable, patient, approachable and able to explain complex information clearly.
If a student does not understand a concept or assessment question, David will take the time to explain it differently or rephrase it where permitted, while maintaining the integrity of the assessment.
Reasonable adjustments may also be available for students experiencing difficulties with:
- reading or writing
- English comprehension
- understanding assessment questions
- technology
- online learning
Where technology is a significant barrier, face-to-face options may also be available for appropriate courses.
The objective is to support the learner without lowering the competency standard.
Continuous Improvement
Quality training should continue to improve.
A Training uses a simple continuous-improvement approach:
Student Feedback → Review → Action → Verification
Feedback is not collected simply for the sake of collecting surveys.
Where appropriate, it is used to improve the way training is explained, demonstrated, structured or supported.
David also contributes subject-matter feedback to the course-development and continuous-improvement processes of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909.
His contributions have included reviewing wording and terminology, assessment content, forms, presentations, safety guides and other training resources within areas of his expertise.

Safety information changes.
David maintains professional development and industry currency through activities including:
- refresher training
- industry courses
- webinars

- professional-development days
- higher-level qualifications

- consultation with industry
- monitoring changes to Legislation, Codes of Practice, Recognised Standards and training requirements

Where relevant, training and educational content is based on authoritative sources such as:
- Legislation

- Australian Standards
- Recognised Standards

- Regulator Guidance
- Training-package requirements
- Manufacturer information
Where information is identified as outdated, unclear or incorrect, it is reviewed and corrected against appropriate authoritative sources.
